Join FISD Insight for a Behind-the-Scenes Look at the District

Ever wanted to take a peek behind the curtain at Frisco ISD? Satisfy your curiosity by joining the next FISD Insight class. Applications open Sept. 3.
FISD Insight participants meet up every month for a few hours to learn everything there is to know about their community school district. From fine arts and athletics to nutrition and human resources, from transportation to facility maintenance, FISD Insight gives each department a spotlight.
Sessions also include a chance to ask questions, further deepening your understanding about Frisco ISD.
Applicants must meet a few criteria to be considered:
- They must be residents of a household within Frisco ISD boundaries.
- Only one adult per household.
- Not an FISD student or employee.
- Not a prior participant.
- Submit a background check before the first class, in accordance with volunteer procedures.
While those new to FISD would certainly benefit from the program, even longtime volunteers walk away with a fresh perspective.
“I had already been very involved as a PTA leader, but Insight still opened my eyes to so much more about the district,” said Cyndi Arakas, an FISD Insight alum and parent of two Centennial High School students. “It gave me an even greater appreciation and understanding for what it takes to make FISD run — I wish I had taken it even sooner!”
That deeper understanding doesn’t just serve parents in their own roles — it also empowers them, and others in the community, to better support the district.
“Insight is really beneficial, not just for parents, but for community members and local businesses, too,” Arakas said. “It’s a great chance to understand the inner workings of FISD and how we can all play a part in supporting our schools.”
Application period: The Insight application will open at 8 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 3 and close at 4 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 25. No late applications will be accepted.
Time commitment: Classes meet for five sessions between October 2025 and February 2026, plus a meet-and-greet, an optional Board Leadership Academy, and Board recognition at the regular February meeting. Access the schedule.
Cost: $20 cash for participants, collected at the first session.
Board Leadership Academy
The Board Leadership Academy, a District committee in the 2024-25 school year, is now an optional capstone session at the end of FISD Insight. The Leadership Academy is designed for community members who want to learn more about the role and responsibilities of a Board member.
The Academy will cover the legal and operational responsibilities of a Board member and will provide members with an opportunity to hear from former FISD Trustees about what it’s like to run for and serve on the FISD School Board.
Joining FISD Insight is more than just a chance to learn — it’s an opportunity to connect, engage and truly understand the heart of Frisco ISD. Learn more and apply starting Sept. 3.
